Medly AI is a London-based EdTech startup developing an AI-powered revision and tutoring platform for GCSE, A-Level, IB, and AP students. Founded in 2023 by two former NHS doctors — Kavi Samra and Paul Jung — Medly was conceived to democratise access to high-quality private tutoring, making personalised academic support available to every student regardless of their family's income.

Private tutoring in the UK is a £7 billion industry, but one that disproportionately benefits students from affluent backgrounds. Research consistently shows that one-on-one tuition dramatically improves exam outcomes, yet it remains out of reach for the majority of students preparing for high-stakes exams. Medly AI's founders experienced this inequality personally, having both grown up in low-income households before earning places to study medicine at UCL.

Medly's platform goes beyond generic AI chatbots by deploying a proprietary architecture built on neuroscience and established teaching theory. The system uses multiple specialised AI models working in parallel — covering teaching methodology, mental state assessment, progress tracking, and exam-board-specific content — to deliver a genuinely adaptive learning experience. Students can access personalised exam papers, real-time marking, interactive revision by curriculum topic, and instant explanations for any question.

Since its initial launch, Medly has attracted over 30,000 monthly active users, with retention metrics comparable to Duolingo and students reporting an average improvement of two GCSE grades. The company raised £1.7 million in seed funding led by Eka Ventures and Ada Ventures, and has received institutional support from UCL, Innovate UK, Microsoft, and Google. Medly's founders were invited to 10 Downing Street to brief the Prime Minister's advisers on AI in education.
