Orbital Industries, formerly Orbital Materials, is a London- and San Francisco-based company building physical infrastructure for AI data centres. As compute demand pushes GPU density higher, power, cooling and deployment have become the main constraints on scaling AI, and Orbital designs hardware aimed squarely at relieving them.

At the core of its approach is Orb, an AI engine that simulates the quantum-mechanical behaviour of atoms; the company says it can model 100,000 atoms on a single GPU. Orbital uses Orb to design materials and systems, including a PFAS-free dielectric cooling fluid and refrigeration system for high-density GPUs, and a modular data centre system manufactured off-site that it says cuts deployment timelines from years to months. These products are sold through its commercial arm, Orbital IT.

Founded in 2022 by Jonathan Godwin, James Gin-Pollock and Daniel Miodovnik, the company has a team of around 50 and a multi-year partnership with AWS. In 2026 it raised a £37M ($50M) Series B led by Plural, with participation from NVentures, Radical Ventures, Compound and Fly Ventures.
