Padium is London's premium indoor padel club, located in Canary Wharf. Founded in 2021 by serial entrepreneur Houman Ashrafzadeh and backed by Spotify co-founder Martin Lorentzon, Padium was conceived to bring the premium padel experience that is ubiquitous in Sweden to the United Kingdom — a country with a proud racket-sport heritage but, until recently, almost no padel infrastructure.
Padel is the world's fastest-growing racket sport, combining elements of tennis and squash. Played in pairs within a glass-enclosed court, it is known for its accessibility and social character. Despite massive growth across Europe and Latin America, the UK lagged well behind in court provision, offering only a handful of substandard venues when Ashrafzadeh began developing his concept.
Padium's flagship site spans 30,000 square feet in the heart of Canary Wharf, featuring nine courts (seven indoor, two outdoor), 10-metre-high ceilings, premium changing rooms with towel service, a pro shop, a smoothie bar, and a mezzanine lounge for networking and events. The club is designed to replicate the elevated experience of Scandinavian padel venues while being fully accessible to beginners and corporate players alike.
Since opening in August 2023, Padium has attracted over 17,000 court bookings and 12,000 customers. The company raised £1.6 million to fund expansion, with plans to open additional locations across major UK cities and, eventually, the United States. Padium's pay-and-play model is supported by coaching from British No.1 player Jorge Martinez.
