PQShield
PQShield is a cybersecurity company specialising in post-quantum cryptography — the next generation of security algorithms designed to withstand attacks from quantum computers. Founded in Oxford in 2018, the company works with semiconductor companies, defence organisations and governments to integrate quantum-resistant cryptography into chips, hardware and software systems.
PQShield's technology is based on the NIST post-quantum cryptography standards — algorithms the company's team helped design — and is already being embedded into products by leading chip manufacturers and OEMs. The company is led by founder and CEO Dr Ali El Kaafarani, a cryptographer and University of Oxford academic.
In June 2024, PQShield raised £29 million from Addition, Braavos Investment Advisers, Chevron Technology Ventures, Legal & General Capital and Oxford Science Enterprises to accelerate commercialisation of its post-quantum security solutions globally.
