Sohar Health is a New York-based healthtech startup founded in 2023 by Dr Ashish (Ash) Mandavia, a former NHS physician turned digital health entrepreneur, and Lucas Gordon, a seasoned CTO with over 14 years of software engineering experience. The two co-founders met while working at Pelago (formerly Quit Genius), a leading digital clinic for substance use, where they encountered first-hand the costly, error-prone world of insurance eligibility verification.

The problem they set out to solve is acute: insurance claims denials cost the US healthcare system tens of billions of dollars each year, with 85% of denials estimated to be preventable. Sohar's API-first platform automates front-end revenue cycle management (RCM) for behavioural health providers — handling insurance eligibility verification and Verification of Benefits (VoB) with greater than 95% accuracy, with over 90% of checks returned in under 30 seconds.

Sohar Health graduated from Y Combinator's Summer 2023 batch and has since raised over $4 million in funding from investors including Y Combinator, Kindred Capital, General Catalyst and Concept Ventures. The platform processes more than 5 million eligibility checks annually, delivering an 8x ROI for clients within their first year. Customers include Talkiatry, Monument, Confidant Health and Finni Health, positioning Sohar as a rising force in the behavioural health technology sector.
