Qureight raises £15M Series B led by Molten Ventures to scale AI imaging for lung and heart trials

Qureight, the Cambridge imaging company that supplies precision endpoints to clinical trials in lung and heart disease, has raised £15 million ($20 million) in a Series B round led by Molten Ventures.

Drug trials in fibrotic lung disease have a measurement problem. Progression is slow, structural and hard to capture with the breathing tests and questionnaires that trials have traditionally relied on, which means studies run long, recruit large cohorts and still produce noisy readouts. Chest imaging holds the signal, but scans arrive from dozens of sites in inconsistent formats, and sponsors have rarely had a way to turn them into something a regulator will accept as an endpoint.

Qureight was founded in 2018 by Dr Muhunthan Thillai, a consultant chest physician at Royal Papworth Hospital, and Dr Alessandro Ruggiero, a consultant radiologist at the same trust, after a case in which the imaging in front of them could not be read with confidence. The company now operates as an end-to-end imaging CRO: it handles image ingestion and site onboarding for trials, then runs proprietary deep-learning biomarkers over 3D chest scans to quantify compartment-specific structural change. A data science layer sits on top, including synthetic control arms that let sponsors compare a treatment arm against a modelled cohort rather than recruiting a placebo group, cutting both cost and duration.

Biopharma partners already use the platform for real-time insight and endpoint generation across a range of fibrotic lung diseases. The Series B follows a £6.8 million Series A in April 2024 and a £1.5 million seed in 2022, taking total capital raised past $30 million. Thillai has said the round was significantly oversubscribed, with three term sheets arriving inside six weeks, a marked shift from two years earlier when Molten passed on the company.

Existing backers Hargreave Hale AIM VCT, XTX Ventures, Guinness Ventures, Meltwind and Ascension all returned for the round. Inga Deakin of Molten Ventures and Anna Salim of Hargreave Hale join the board. The capital funds an AI imaging laboratory to house Qureight's 3D chest imaging foundation model, a shift from narrow task-specific models to a general spatial representation that cuts the data volume and development time needed for each new disease area. That should open up asthma, pulmonary hypertension, bronchiectasis and drug-induced lung toxicity alongside the company's existing position in lung fibrosis, with further investment going into the analytics platform and a larger commercial team.
