Ashima Gupta holds a first-class degree in Statistics and spent nearly 15 years in financial services, holding risk management and data science roles at American Express, Liverpool Victoria, and Lloyds Banking Group. During that time she developed deep expertise in risk modelling — and came to realise that the same quantitative rigour could be applied to the urgent problem of financing the global transition to renewable energy.

In 2021 Ashima co-founded Renew Risk alongside Gaurav Chawla, Joshua Macabuag, and Professor Subhamoy Bhattacharya. As CEO she has built the company into the world's leading provider of catastrophe risk models specifically designed for offshore wind farms, serving insurers, reinsurers, banks, developers, and asset managers with science-driven analytics covering earthquakes, hurricanes, typhoons, and other natural disaster risks.

Renew Risk has raised a total of over $8 million, including a £5 million Series A in early 2025 led by Molten Ventures with participation from Lloyd's and Insurtech Gateway. The company operates on Nasdaq's Risk Modelling platform, has modelled offshore wind risk across Japan, the US, and Europe, and has been recognised on the Royal Academy of Engineering's Shott Scale-Up Accelerator and by Clean Energy Global Business Innovation programmes.
