Danyal Akarca is a co-founder of Callosum, a London-based AI infrastructure company. He completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge working at the intersection of neuroscience, computing and artificial intelligence, and his research on how biological brains organise computation has been published across several Nature journals.

Before founding Callosum he held a Schmidt AI fellowship at Imperial College London, supported by Schmidt Futures. His research career has included work with Intel and collaborations with Google DeepMind, much of it circling the same question: how the structure of a computing substrate shapes the kind of intelligence it can support. That question became the technical premise of the company he went on to build.

He co-founded Callosum in 2024 with fellow Cambridge PhD Jascha Achterberg, bringing the company out of stealth in February 2026 with a $10.25m round led by Plural. In August 2026 Callosum raised a $100m seed led by Atomico — among the largest seed rounds ever raised by a European AI infrastructure company — and became the first company backed by the UK's Sovereign AI Fund.
