Demis Hassabis is a British computer scientist, neuroscientist and AI researcher of Greek-Cypriot and Singaporean Chinese heritage. He grew up in north London, became a chess prodigy in his early teens, and later co-designed the 1990s strategy game Theme Park before reading computer science at Cambridge and completing a PhD in cognitive neuroscience at UCL.

In 2010 Hassabis co-founded DeepMind, the London AI research lab acquired by Google in 2014. As CEO of Google DeepMind he has led work spanning reinforcement learning, protein structure prediction and the Gemini family of frontier models. The lab's AlphaFold system, which predicts the three-dimensional structure of proteins, won Hassabis and colleague John Jumper a share of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Hassabis founded Isomorphic Labs in 2021 as an Alphabet spinout to apply that AI research directly to drug discovery, and continues as the company's CEO. He was knighted in 2024 for services to artificial intelligence.
