Koji Muto is the cofounder and chief executive of Ki 13, a London company producing low-cost green hydrogen and biogenic CO₂ for the synthetic fuels industry. He holds an MBA from London Business School.
Muto built his career on the industrial side of the energy transition. At ExxonMobil he worked on the development of a $1 billion hydrogen project, which Ki 13 describes as the largest in the UK. He went on to join two climate startups in their early days: a developer of small modular nuclear reactors that has raised $100M, and a direct air capture company.
He cofounded Ki 13, originally called Ki Hydrogen, with Michael Stanton. The company has built a low-temperature electrochemical process that breaks down crop and forestry residues into separate streams of hydrogen and CO₂, the two most expensive inputs for e-SAF, e-methanol and e-methane. In September 2026 Ki 13 raised a £3.7M seed round led by HICO Investment Group to build its first industrial pilot plant.
