Mustafa Khanwala

Mustafa Khanwala is a British-South Asian entrepreneur and retail technology pioneer who founded MishiPay in 2015 after standing in a supermarket queue for over twenty minutes to buy a single can of soda. That moment of frustration became the catalyst for building one of the most widely deployed mobile self-checkout platforms in the world, now live in over 1,471 retail locations across more than 18 countries. He was named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 list alongside co-founder Tanvi Bhardwaj.
Mustafa serves as Founder and CEO of MishiPay, leading the company's product vision, commercial strategy, and global expansion. Under his leadership the platform evolved from a Scan, Pay and Go mobile app into a full modular POS ecosystem encompassing mobile self-checkout, RFID-powered kiosks, and mPOS solutions — enabling retail partners including Decathlon, MUJI, Flying Tiger Copenhagen, and Carter's to eliminate queues and improve the shopper experience.
MishiPay has raised a total of $17.2 million across six funding rounds, including a Series A led by American Express Ventures and Nauta Capital. By December 2024, more than 2% of the UK population had shopped using MishiPay, and the company has since expanded into the Middle East with live deployments at Dubai airports.
