Prof. Subhamoy Bhattacharya

Professor Subhamoy Bhattacharya is a Chaired Professor at the University of Surrey, where he leads the Geomechanics Research Group and is internationally recognised as one of the world's leading experts in offshore wind engineering. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Cambridge and has also served as a Departmental Lecturer at the University of Oxford. He has authored three books on offshore wind farms and has published research linked to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Subhamoy co-founded Renew Risk in 2021 alongside Ashima Gupta, Gaurav Chawla, and Joshua Macabuag, contributing decades of applied expertise in the physics of offshore structures, geomechanics, and natural disaster risk to the company's modelling capabilities. As Chief Scientist Officer he oversees the scientific integrity and technical development of Renew Risk's suite of catastrophe models, which cover earthquakes, typhoons, hurricanes, and other hazards threatening offshore wind assets.
Renew Risk's models are trusted by global (re)insurers and financial institutions, are integrated with Nasdaq's Risk Modelling platform, and are the only dedicated catastrophe models for offshore wind globally. The company raised a £5 million Series A in 2025 led by Molten Ventures and has partnered with Lloyd's of London and GCube Insurance.
