Alloyed is an Oxford University spinout that designs, develops, and manufactures advanced metallic alloys and alloy components for the aerospace, automotive, electronics, and industrial sectors. The company was founded in 2017 to commercialise research from the University of Oxford, addressing a fundamental challenge in materials engineering: the slow, expensive, and largely manual process of developing new high-performance alloys. Alloyed’s approach combines proprietary computational design platforms with industrial-scale additive manufacturing (metal 3D printing) to accelerate alloy discovery and production in ways that traditional metallurgy cannot match.

At the heart of Alloyed’s offering is its ABD® computational alloy design platform, which uses physical modelling and machine learning to develop novel alloys far faster than conventional experimental methods. This allows the company to create customised materials tailored to the precise mechanical, thermal, and chemical requirements of a given application — whether a satellite component, an aviation engine part, or a wearable device. The company’s Abingdon, UK headquarters houses one of the largest fleets of additive manufacturing machines in Europe, and it maintains a second facility in Seattle, USA. Clients include Boeing, Microsoft, BMW, Anglo American, and Hitachi Metals.

In March 2025, Alloyed closed a £37 million Series B funding round led by Japanese investors SPARX and the Development Bank of Japan, with participation from Aviva Investors, Future Industry Ventures, and existing backers Oxford Science Enterprises and JX Advanced Metals. The capital is being deployed to expand manufacturing capacity in both the UK and US, and to accelerate development of Alloyed’s digital platforms for alloy design and processing. The company is backed by a belief that high-performance metallic alloys will be critical to the energy transition and next-generation technologies across satellites, wearables, and electronics.
