eXate is a London-based data-privacy software company whose distributed platform enforces privacy, protection and dynamic access controls on sensitive data — sitting between APIs, applications and databases rather than at any single chokepoint. The platform centres on Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC), with techniques including dynamic data masking, redaction, tokenisation and encryption, applied at the level of individual records and fields.
The product line includes APIgator, which protects data in motion through APIs; Datagator, which protects data at rest across databases like Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake and Databricks; and GatorAId, which uses AI to classify data and align it with policies. The company markets itself primarily to banks and other regulated financial institutions handling sensitive data across multiple jurisdictions, where centralised policy enforcement is required to navigate cross-border data residency rules.
Founded in 2018 by Peter Lancos (CEO) and Sonal Rattan (CTO), eXate has raised over £2.3 million in a seed round led by Outward VC, with participation from ING Ventures, Triple Point Venture Growth and Aperture Capital. The platform is deployed in 65 countries and the company has partnerships with Red Hat, IBM, Temenos, PortX and, most recently, Aqua Global for financial messaging.
