Sonal Rattan is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of eXate, a London-based data privacy software company whose platform sits between APIs, applications and databases to enforce dynamic Attribute-Based Access Control on sensitive data. eXate's products are deployed in 65 countries, with integrations through partners including Red Hat, IBM and Temenos, and customers including some of the world's largest banks.

Rattan started eXate with co-founder Peter Lancos after more than a decade at HSBC, where she held senior roles including Head of EMEA RegTech and Head of Digital Assets, focused on regulatory technology and risk infrastructure across global markets. The early years of the company were challenging — including a term sheet pulled at the start of Covid — before eXate landed its first major bank as a customer and raised a £2.3 million seed round led by Outward VC, with participation from ING Ventures, Triple Point and others.

Earlier in her career, Rattan worked across investment banking and the charity sector in development and analyst roles at firms including UBS, Mizuho, Abbey Financial Markets and JustGiving. She holds an MSc in E-commerce from Coventry University and has built a reputation as one of the more visible female technical leaders in UK fintech.
