Patchwork Health
.avif)
Patchwork Health is a UK healthcare workforce platform founded in 2016 by NHS doctors Dr Anas Nader and Dr Jing Ouyang. Having lived the daily frustrations of understaffed wards, outdated rostering systems and a reliance on expensive locum agencies, the two founders set out to build a technology solution that would give both NHS organisations and clinical staff a better way to manage and fill shifts.
The platform provides NHS Trusts and health boards with an integrated workforce management solution covering temporary staffing (staff banks), rostering and collaborative bank arrangements. Through Patchwork's app, clinicians can view and book available shifts at the tap of a button, while rota managers gain access to real-time data and analytics to plan staffing proactively. The model eliminates costly agency 'middle men' — saving organisations up to 48% improvement in bank fill rates — and has delivered over £120 million in savings across partner organisations. Staff bank growth and flexible scheduling also support clinician wellbeing, helping to stem the tide of NHS burnout and resignations.
Patchwork has raised £20 million in a Series B round led by Perwyn, backed by Praetura Ventures and KHP Ventures, with angel investors including Monzo founder Tom Blomfield. Named Staffing Solution of the Year at the HSJ Partnership Awards in 2022, the company now partners with over 100 NHS sites and 50,000+ clinicians across the UK. It was selected for TechNation's Future Fifty in 2024 and is widely recognised as one of the leading healthtech companies tackling the NHS workforce crisis.
