Shares is a social investing app that combines fractional stock trading with a social feed and group-chat features. Users can buy fractional shares from £1, follow what friends are buying and selling, and discuss positions in private or community chats — a deliberate departure from the solo-trading model that defines most retail investment apps.
The product launched in the UK in early 2022 and now offers access to US and UK equities, ETFs, and crypto across several European markets, with execution handled via brokerage partners. The app pairs trading with curated market intelligence and discussion groups intended for first-time investors as much as experienced ones.
Shares was founded in 2021 in Paris by Benjamin Chemla, François Ruty and Harjas Singh. It has raised around $90 million across seed, Series A and Series B rounds led by Valar Ventures, with participation from Singular, Global Founders Capital and Red Sea Ventures, and operates from offices in Paris, London and Krakow.
