Greyparrot raises £20M Series B to scale AI waste intelligence across Europe and North America
July 28, 2026
Greyparrot, the London-based waste intelligence company co-founded by Ambarish Mitra, Mikela Druckman and Nikola Sivacki, has raised £20M ($27M / €23M) in a Series B round led by technology investor Omar Mir.
The waste industry is worth roughly $2 trillion globally and runs, for the most part, on guesswork. Operators sample material manually, covering a fraction of a percent of what actually moves through their facilities, and the resulting numbers are then used to make decisions about recovery rates, packaging design and national policy. Regulation is closing that gap fast. Extended Producer Responsibility schemes are now live across much of the world and the EU's packaging regulation is pushing reporting requirements further, turning accurate measurement from a competitive advantage into a legal obligation for producers and operators alike.
Greyparrot's answer is a camera system called an Analyzer, mounted above the sorting belts inside recovery facilities. It identifies the material, product and often the brand of each object as it passes, generating a continuous read on composition rather than a periodic sample. Recycling operators use that feed to tune their sorting lines; consumer goods companies including Unilever, L'Oréal and Kenvue use the company's Deepnest platform to see how their own packaging behaves after it is thrown away and redesign accordingly. Policymakers are starting to use the same evidence base for compliance reporting and national waste audits.
The systems now run in more than 20 countries, with Veolia, Biffa, FCC and Circular Services among the operators using them. Greyparrot reports facilities seeing efficiency gains of between 10% and 30%, and says one site saved more than $2M in a single year. The round was announced alongside a milestone the company has been building towards for some time: its AI has now passed one trillion individual waste detections, a dataset it says represents an estimated £1.87bn in recoverable material value, including 17.4 billion PET bottles and 4.2 billion aluminium items. Greyparrot previously raised an $11M Series A in early 2024; FinSMES reports the new round takes total funding to around $60M.
Omar Mir led the round as an angel investor, with the company positioning the raise as capital for an intelligence layer rather than a hardware rollout — the argument being that secondary materials cannot be priced, traded or invested in until they can be measured. The money will fund expansion across North America and Europe and hiring into the AI, data science and product teams, with a stated target of helping recover more than one million tonnes of waste by 2030. "Waste is one of the planet's largest untapped resources, and data is the infrastructure that unlocks it," said Druckman, who serves as CEO. Mitra, the company's chief product officer, framed it in terms of a category shift: "Waste intelligence will do for materials what satellite data did for navigation."
