Debonil Chowdhury

Debonil Chowdhury is the co-founder and Chief Science Officer of Aria Intelligent Solutions, a UK AI consultancy serving major retail, FMCG, and pharmaceutical organisations. Of South Asian heritage, Chowdhury is a statistician and data scientist by training, holding an MSc in Statistics from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur — one of India's leading technical universities — before building his career in advanced analytics in the United Kingdom.
Prior to founding Aria's Science, Chowdhury developed deep expertise at dunnhumby, the global data science company behind the Tesco Clubcard loyalty programme and known for pioneering the use of customer data in retail. His work at dunnhumby gave him rare practical experience in applying machine learning and statistical modelling at scale within major commercial organisations, earning him a reputation as one of the go-to experts in translating complex data into actionable business insights.
In 2018, Chowdhury founded Aria's Science to commercialise his expertise in machine learning, AI, and deep learning through a specialist consultancy focused on the retail, FMCG, and hospitality sectors. The firm built a client base including Unilever, Roche, and several of the UK's largest retailers. In January 2025, Aria's Science merged with Thought Provoking Consulting to form Aria Intelligent Solutions, with Chowdhury stepping into the Chief Science Officer role of the combined entity.
Chowdhury has been invited to present at the 95th Annual Session of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) at IIT Guwahati, reflecting his standing as a researcher as well as a practitioner. He is a vocal advocate for the responsible deployment of AI in business, and has written and spoken extensively on the importance of human oversight in AI-driven decision-making systems.
