Mingtian Zhang

Mingtian Zhang is a Chinese-born AI researcher and entrepreneur who trained at University College London and gained early industry experience as a research intern at Huawei Technologies Research and Development. His academic and professional background gave him deep expertise in applied machine learning, natural language processing, and the limitations of conventional retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems — limitations he set out to fix.
Zhang founded Vectify AI in London in 2023 with the conviction that existing vector-database approaches to document retrieval fail professionals who need precision, not approximation. As CEO, he led the development of PageIndex, a reasoning-based RAG engine that transforms documents into hierarchical semantic tree structures rather than chunking them arbitrarily, enabling large language models to navigate and retrieve information the way a human expert would — with full traceability.
Vectify AI's flagship model, Mafin, achieved 98.7% accuracy on the industry-standard FinanceBench benchmark, positioning the company as a leader in AI-powered document intelligence for financial reports, legal documents, medical records, and technical manuals. The company raised £1.1m to commercialise PageIndex and expand its suite of document and financial data analysis tools.
