Nakul Haridas

Nakul Haridas is a co-founder of Sofant Technologies, an Edinburgh-based semiconductor company developing breakthrough RF MEMS antenna technology. His work at Sofant is rooted in years of research at the University of Edinburgh, where the company's core technology was incubated before being spun out in 2011. He brings expertise in RF systems and semiconductor engineering to one of Scotland's most technically ambitious deep-tech ventures.

Nakul co-founded Sofant alongside Ahmed El-Rayis and Professor Tughrul Arslan. The company's RF MEMS platform addresses a critical bottleneck in the design of phased array antennas: conventional semiconductor switches generate excessive heat and consume significant power at high frequencies, making them impractical for next-generation 5G and satellite communications systems. Sofant's technology reduces power consumption by more than 70%, enabling smaller, lighter, and more energy-efficient antenna solutions.

Sofant has raised over £6 million from a syndicate including EMV Capital, Scottish Enterprise, Kelvin Capital, the UK Space Agency, and the European Space Agency. The company is now transitioning from R&D into commercial production, having recently demonstrated the world's first Ka-band transmit array using its proprietary beamforming integrated circuit — a milestone that positions Sofant at the forefront of the global satellite and defence antenna market.
