Raj Kohli grew up running around his parents' NHS GP practice in East London — a third-generation NHS worker who saw from childhood both the dedication of primary care staff and the weight of administrative burden that consumed their days. After a career in management consulting, where he delivered intelligent automation projects for global financial institutions, he turned that expertise towards a problem much closer to home.

In 2021, Raj co-founded Healthtech-1 with his school friend Peter Huang, embedding the startup inside an NHS GP surgery in Stratford to build automation tools from the ground up, shaped entirely by the realities of frontline primary care. As co-founder and head of growth, he has driven the company's expansion to more than 1,400 GP practices across England — covering over 25% of the country's primary care network. Healthtech-1 was selected for Y Combinator's 2023 cohort, one of just a small number of UK health startups to earn a place at the world's most competitive accelerator.

Healthtech-1's core products — automated patient registrations and automated lab result filing — have collectively saved the NHS over 124 years of staff time, and the company was named the 33rd fastest-growing startup in Europe by Sifted in 2025. Raj has become a leading advocate for redirecting world-class technology talent towards public healthcare, with the conviction that making primary care administration invisible is how you fix the NHS.
