Shilpa Kaluti is a British South Asian entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of AttiFin AI, a Newcastle-based legal technology company building Britain's first enterprise-grade AI platform trained exclusively on UK and devolved law. Her leadership of AttiFin reflects a conviction that reliable, jurisdiction-specific AI can fundamentally reshape how legal professionals work — and that transformative technology does not need to originate in London.
Kaluti's background spans technology and the UK public sector, with a professional foundation closely linked to Scrumconnect, the technology consultancy whose founders back AttiFin. Scrumconnect's experience delivering digital systems for His Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service and the Ministry of Justice on nationally significant programmes — including Common Platform — is central to AttiFin's credibility: the company was built by people who understand the complexity, sensitivity, and reliability requirements of legal technology in practice.
Under her leadership, AttiFin is building a platform designed to serve law firms, barristers' chambers, and in-house legal and compliance teams with AI that reflects the genuine complexity of British law. Unlike general-purpose models adapted for legal use, AttiFin's system is trained on the specific language and structure of English, Welsh, Scottish, and Northern Irish law — producing cited, case-ready answers and drafts with robust guardrails against hallucinations, and hosted entirely in UK data centres for data residency compliance.
In December 2025, Kaluti secured £5 million in seed funding — backed by the Scrumconnect founders — and committed to creating at least 25 technical and commercial roles in Newcastle ahead of the company's planned 2026 launch. Her decision to base AttiFin in the North East reflects a deliberate belief that the region's AI talent, legal services community, and university pipeline make it a genuinely competitive location for world-class legal technology — not just a second-best alternative to the capital.
