Vishal Kumar

Vishal Kumar is a British-Indian entrepreneur, cultural data scientist, and content creator whose career sits at the intersection of technology, art, and urban culture. He studied Economics and Geography at the London School of Economics before completing a Master's in Spatial Data Science and Visualisation at The Bartlett Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis at UCL, where he was also a researcher. At UCL, he was one of the first data scientists at Sotheby's auction house on secondment, and went on to advise international cultural institutions and governments on data science strategy, including clients such as the European Commission, the UK's Department for Culture Media and Sport, and the Mayor of London.
Kumar's path to hardware entrepreneurship began from a personal creative frustration. As a content creator with over 30,000 social media followers, he found that professional mirrorless cameras delivered far superior image quality but posed a prohibitive learning curve for creators who lacked formal photography training. He co-founded Alice Camera — later renamed Camera Intelligence — during the UCL Hatchery entrepreneurship programme at BaseKX, King's Cross, drawing on his Entrepreneur First programme experience to form the founding team. He has been CEO of the company since its founding in 2019.
Camera Intelligence is building an AI-powered mirrorless camera platform that integrates a large language model assistant directly into the camera system. The assistant allows creators to control camera settings by natural language voice command, removing the need for technical expertise around exposure, focus, and colour science. The platform also supports on-device editing, enabling colour grading and style selection without requiring additional software. Kumar has described the long-term ambition as removing every roadblock between a creator's vision and the final output.
The company raised $2 million in seed funding in September 2025 from Betaworks, F4 Fund, Next Wave via Flybridge, 7pc Ventures, and Digital Catapult. Kumar has been a public speaker on creative AI and is a recognised voice on the intersection of artificial intelligence and the creative industries.
