Kavaken

Kavaken is a Newcastle-based SaaS company that uses artificial intelligence and operational data to improve the performance of renewable energy assets. Founded in 2022 by Bora Tokyay and Murat Yilmaz as a spin-off from Tarentum AI, Kavaken provides wind and solar energy asset owners, operators, insurers, and lenders with a suite of tools that maximise generation, reduce downtime, and improve the financial returns from their installations.
The company addresses a fundamental gap in how renewable energy installations are managed. As the global installed base of wind and solar assets grows — and as these assets age — the challenge of managing them efficiently has become increasingly critical. Underperformance caused by component degradation, soiling, shading, or equipment faults represents a significant and largely preventable loss of revenue. Kavaken's AI platform analyses continuous data streams from inverters, sensors, and SCADA systems to build a performance model of each asset, detecting anomalies at the individual module, string, or turbine level and differentiating between fault types to prioritise the maintenance interventions with the highest impact on generation.
Kavaken's product suite includes predictive maintenance alerts, power curve optimisation, production forecasting with weather model integration, real-time outage tracking, and a daily revenue dashboard — all delivered without requiring any new hardware. The company serves renewable energy operators across the UK, Turkey, and Europe, with clients including Borusan EnBW. It has offices in Newcastle and Istanbul.
Kavaken raised £1.1 million in seed funding in June 2024 from investors including Rockstart Energy, Bogazici Ventures, Vestel Ventures, and the Norrsken Accelerator, and has been selected for leading clean energy programmes including ORE Catapult's Launch Academy and the TotalEnergies ON accelerator.
