NRG Gym

NRG Gym is an award-winning UK gym group built on the high-value, low-price (HVLP) model — the belief that exceptional gym facilities and genuine community should be accessible to everyone, not just those who can afford premium memberships. Founded by Shafiq Ahmed in 2013 with a single site in Gravesend, Kent, NRG has grown into one of the UK's most recognisable independent gym brands, expanding to thirteen sites across London, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, Glasgow, and beyond.
NRG's model is built on deep member insight: every new site is informed by detailed research into what prospective members want, from studio layouts and lighting to female-focused strength zones and 24/7 access. The result is a product that consistently outperforms on value and community at a competitive price point. The brand has built a loyal, diverse membership base of over 35,000 people across the UK.
In 2024, NRG secured a £4 million follow-on investment from Puma Growth Partners to fund further site expansion, data and analytics investment, and team growth. The same year, founder Shafiq Ahmed was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Health and Fitness Association. In 2025, NRG acquired Pump Gyms, nearly doubling its estate and cementing its position as one of the UK's leading HVLP fitness operators.
