Sprive is the UK's only independent mortgage overpayment app, founded in 2019 by Jinesh Vohra alongside two co-founders with backgrounds at Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. The company was born from Vohra's personal experience of paying off his own mortgage and realising how difficult and opaque the process of overpaying was for the average homeowner — despite the substantial interest savings on offer.
The platform addresses a well-documented but structurally neglected problem in UK retail finance. Mortgage debt accounts for 80 percent of UK household debt, yet most lenders have little incentive to make overpayment easy, and most homeowners lack the tools or prompts to take action. Sprive connects to a user's bank account and mortgage via open banking, identifies spare cash based on spending patterns, and automatically directs it toward mortgage overpayments at a cadence the user controls. It also integrates with major UK supermarkets and retailers to offer cashback rewards on everyday spending, channelling that cash directly into overpayments. A market monitoring function alerts users when better mortgage deals become available, helping them remortgage at the right time and at better rates.
The product is free to users. Sprive works with more than 14 of the UK's largest mortgage lenders and more than 80 household retail brands. The company reports that its average user is on course to cut three years from their mortgage term, and that collectively its user base is on track to save over £100 million in interest. A Dragon's Den appearance drove Sprive to become the most downloaded finance app and sixth most downloaded app of any category in the UK in the week of broadcast.
In April 2025, Sprive raised £5.5 million led by Ascension, with participation from Channel 4 Ventures, Velocity Capital, and Two Magnolias. NatWest selected Sprive as one of five companies for its inaugural fintech growth programme, reflecting growing institutional recognition of the platform's potential to become the primary tool for UK homeowners managing their mortgage.
