Phlo Digital Pharmacy Raises Funding to Bring Same-Day Medicine Delivery to the UK

Phlo, the UK's first fully digital pharmacy offering same-day prescription medicine delivery, has raised funding to scale its service across the country. The company operates a platform that allows patients to send NHS or private prescriptions digitally, have them fulfilled at its licensed pharmacy, and receive their medicines on the same day via a network of last-mile couriers — a model designed to bring the convenience of on-demand delivery to a sector that still depends heavily on patients physically visiting pharmacies.

Phlo was founded with the goal of removing the friction and delays that frequently characterise the pharmacy experience for patients in the UK. Despite the NHS's broad coverage, the last-mile logistics of getting medicines to patients on time has remained stubbornly analogue. For patients managing chronic conditions, those who are elderly or mobility-impaired, or simply those who cannot easily take time off work to visit a pharmacy, same-day home delivery represents a meaningful improvement in access and adherence to prescribed treatments.

The company's technology platform integrates with the NHS's Electronic Prescription Service (EPS), allowing prescriptions issued digitally by GPs to be routed directly to Phlo without patients needing to carry paper prescriptions. Once dispensed, orders are tracked end-to-end through the delivery process. The platform also supports private prescriptions and offers a subscription medicine service for patients on regular repeat prescriptions, providing automatic dispensing and delivery on a predictable schedule.

The broader context for Phlo's model is the significant pressure facing community pharmacies in the UK, where thousands of independent and chain pharmacies have closed in recent years due to funding cuts and rising operating costs, leaving some communities with reduced access. Digital pharmacy models offer a potential route to extending access without the fixed costs of a physical estate, particularly in areas where pharmacy density has declined.

The funding will be used to grow Phlo's dispensing operations, expand its courier network, develop its technology platform, and scale its marketing and partnerships to drive adoption among NHS patients, GP practices, and private healthcare providers.
