Recruitment SMART Raises £1.1M to Speed Up CV Screening With AI
April 3, 2024
Recruitment SMART, a UK recruitment technology company, has raised £1.1 million to develop its AI-powered CV screening platform. The company's software uses artificial intelligence to analyse CVs against job specifications and produce ranked, annotated candidate lists — allowing recruiters and HR teams to identify the most relevant candidates from large application pools in a fraction of the time that manual CV review requires.
Initial CV screening is one of the most time-consuming and least value-adding activities in recruitment. For a typical job posting in a competitive field, dozens or hundreds of applications may arrive within days of posting. The manual process of reading each CV and assessing its fit against the job requirements is slow, prone to fatigue effects that reduce decision quality late in a screening session, and inconsistent — different recruiters applying different implicit criteria produce different outcomes for the same candidate pool. For in-house HR teams managing multiple open roles simultaneously, the screening bottleneck is a significant constraint on hiring speed and quality.
Recruitment SMART addresses this by applying natural language processing to both the CV and the job specification, extracting the relevant skills, experience, and qualifications from each and producing a structured comparison that scores candidates against the role requirements. The system can be configured with the specific criteria that matter most for a given role — essential versus desirable requirements, weighting of different skill areas — and applies these consistently across the full candidate pool, producing a ranked list with annotations that explain each candidate's score. This allows recruiters to review a far smaller number of CVs in detail, with the AI having already handled the initial pass that eliminates clearly unsuitable applications and identifies the candidates most worth considering.
The funding will be used to develop the platform's AI matching capabilities, build integrations with major ATS (applicant tracking system) platforms, and grow the commercial pipeline among in-house HR teams and recruitment agencies.
