Better Nature Tempeh is a UK food company building a mainstream tempeh brand. Tempeh — a fermented whole-soybean protein that has been a staple in Indonesian cooking for centuries — is high in protein, fibre and gut-friendly prebiotics, but had little retail presence in the UK before the company launched in 2020.

The product range covers a plain block alongside marinated, ready-to-cook variants designed to slot into everyday meals — stir-fries, sandwiches, salads. The company is also commercialising a patent-protected fermentation ingredient that extends tempeh's applications beyond its current SKUs. It markets on health and naturalness rather than meat-mimicry, and is a certified B Corp.

Founded in 2018 by Christopher Kong, Driando Ahnan-Winarno, Elin Roberts and Fabio Rinaldo, Better Nature is stocked in Tesco, Lidl, Whole Foods, Selfridges and Planet Organic in the UK, and in Germany's REWE. It has raised over £2.4M from a mix of venture, angel and crowdfunding rounds, and donates 1% of sales to tackle malnutrition in Indonesia.
