CoGrammar is the London and Cape Town-based edtech company behind HyperionDev, Africa's largest online coding bootcamp. Founded by Riaz Moola in 2012, the organisation was built on a simple but powerful premise: that high-quality, affordable programming education should be accessible to anyone, regardless of geography or circumstance. HyperionDev began as a text-based coding course designed for students with limited internet access in South Africa, and grew organically as universities across the country adopted it. It has since expanded to more than 40 countries, offering immersive coding bootcamps in software engineering, data science, web development, and cybersecurity.
CoGrammar's differentiation lies in its human-led approach to coding education. Rather than relying solely on video lectures or automated grading, the platform integrates expert code review and one-on-one mentorship into every programme — providing the kind of quality feedback that prepares learners for real jobs, not just certificates. HyperionDev has partnered with the University of Edinburgh and Imperial College London to offer accredited programmes, and its graduates benefit from career services including mock interviews, CV support, and job placement assistance.
Backed by Google, Facebook, and a network of venture and institutional investors, CoGrammar has raised over £25 million to fund its global expansion. The company has been recognised with Facebook's top Innovation Challenge prize, featured in the FT's fastest-growing companies lists, and participated in UK government EdTech roundtables. Its enterprise Code Review as a Service product — offered under the CoGrammar brand — enables coding education providers worldwide to integrate expert mentorship into their platforms at scale.
