Matin Mohseni

Dr Matin Mohseni is an Iranian-born biomedical scientist, engineer, and co-founder of KluraLabs, the Cambridge-based antimicrobial technology company. Born in Iran, he pursued his undergraduate studies at Imperial College London before completing a PhD in the development and targeting of metal oxide nanoparticles at University College London — scientific training that would directly underpin the surface chemistry at the heart of KluraLabs' technology platform.
Mohseni honed his entrepreneurial instincts through Entrepreneur First's Cohort 14 in 2020, a programme renowned for supporting technical founders at the earliest stages of company formation. It was there that a chance encounter — and a cup of coffee — brought him together with fellow scientist Dr Reza Saberi Moghaddam. The two shared a conviction that existing antimicrobial technologies were falling short, and that a more rigorous, materials-science-led approach could produce solutions meaningfully superior to anything on the market. KluraLabs, then known as CodiKoat, was born from that meeting in the midst of the global pandemic.
As co-founder and COO of KluraLabs, Mohseni has overseen the company's evolution from a deep-tech laboratory concept into a commercially deployed food-tech business. His technical leadership spans the development of the company's nanostructure-based antimicrobial coating technology, its application to food packaging in partnership with Marks & Spencer, and its expansion into healthcare through the CrossGuard antimicrobial nitrile glove developed with Unigloves. He has championed a philosophy of practical, commercially viable science — building solutions that integrate with existing supply chains rather than demanding wholesale process change from customers.
Mohseni was named on Forbes' Manufacturing & Industry 30 Under 30 list in 2022, recognising his work at the frontier of materials science and sustainable food technology. KluraLabs has since raised over £8 million from investors including Ahren Innovation Capital, JamJar Investments, Bramble Investments, and Winklevoss Capital, and holds two patents covering its core technology. He continues to serve as a vocal advocate for Iran's potential as an innovation economy and for the role of science-led entrepreneurship in solving global sustainability challenges.
