Wenmiao Yu is the co-founder and Director of Business Development at Quantum Dice, an Oxford University spinout commercialising quantum random number generation (QRNG) technology for cybersecurity. Of East Asian heritage, Yu studied chemistry as an integrated master’s student at the University of Oxford, where her passion for translating scientific research into commercial products was first sparked by an internship at a patent attorneys’ firm. This experience led her to seek out entrepreneurship opportunities, eventually bringing her to the inaugural StEP Ignite programme run by Oxford University Innovation and Oxford Science Enterprises in 2019 — the programme through which Quantum Dice was born.

As co-founder responsible for business development, Yu has been instrumental in driving Quantum Dice’s commercial strategy, translating deeply technical quantum cryptography into market-ready propositions for clients in cybersecurity, telecommunications, defence, and financial services. She has been recognised as a Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree, a Member of the UK Young Academy, and a Royal Academy of Engineering Shott Scale-Up Leader — acknowledgements that reflect both her technical credibility and her standing as a public advocate for quantum technology and entrepreneurship. She also volunteers as a mental health ambassador, bringing the same openness to her professional community that she applies to Quantum Dice’s team culture.

Quantum Dice’s ORBIT Quantum Random Number Generator — which uses a self-certifying protocol called DISC to continuously verify the quality and integrity of its randomness — addresses a critical vulnerability in modern encryption infrastructure. With £4.1 million in funding to commercialise the technology, Yu continues to lead the company’s efforts to bring provably secure randomness to enterprises, governments, and the IoT devices that underpin the world’s digital security architecture.
